How to Repair or Replace an LCD Power Supply Board

Many people believe that LCDs are now becoming outdated but the facts and figures portray a completely different picture. According to a survey, it was found that from 2009 till 2015, LCD unit sales have witnessed a substantial increase. In 2014 alone, around 223 million LCD units were sold around the world. Although LCD TVs are popular and are present in almost every house, there are problems that may occur related to the power supply in your LCD after you have used it for quite some time. LCD power supply repair is by no means child’s play and thus we have written this article to empower our readers about steps and procedures involved in LCD power supply repairing.

Open the Outer Case of LCD TV

This is a piece of cake. Firstly, make sure that your LCD TV is not plugged into the power source. Then, place the LCD TV with its face down on a flat surface to avoid causing any harm to the screen of your LCD. The next step is to get hold of a screw driver and open the rear panel of the LCD TV.

Find the Circuit Board and Remove It

In order to locate the power board, all you have to do is to observe where and on which board the power supply cable is attached. Then, remove this power supply board by disconnecting connectors and screws. Now, this won’t be done by using ordinary screw drivers as you will have to purchase a soldering iron to safely remove the power supply board from the LCD TV without harming it.

Locate and Replace the Malfunctioning Capacitors

A soldering iron is not only used to safely remove the power board from the LCD unit but it is also used to remove the malfunctioning capacitors and placing new capacitors in their place. Capacitors are cylindrical shaped that stands vertically on the power supply board and are flat from above. The most common and the easiest way to detect a malfunctioning capacitor is that they would have a curved top. If you are unable to remove and replace capacitors using a soldering iron yourself, then we recommend you take the unit to a professional LCD power supply repairer.

Time to Reassemble the Unit

Finally, it’s time to reassemble the unit and see whether our efforts have yielded any fruit or not. After placing all the parts correctly in their place and you are still facing a power supply failure issue in your LCD TV, then you should replace the main power supply board altogether.
A non-functioning power supply board in no way means that your LCD unit has died and needs to be replaced. You can easily purchase a power supply board online and replace it with the defunct power supply board of your LCD TV unit and it should do the trick.
