PCB Repair Epoxy

PCB Repair Epoxy

Printed circuit boards (PCBs) are susceptible to damage due to overheating and that makes a pcb repair epoxy regime all the more useful because it can be done easily and is very inexpensive. Replacing circuit boards in the more pricey gadgets such as a tablet or a laptop can become an unmanageable expense especially if these devices are used a lot and do generally suffer from thermal stress on their circuitry. Using something as simple and effective as quick drying epoxy can be the ideal solution.

Why Epoxy Is Brilliant?

• It dries almost instantly so it gets the job done faster although you do need to apply a bit of pressure to get it to stick properly.

• It works on everything from metals to ceramics so you are safe opting for it for use on a circuit board.

• Industrial strength epoxy is the ideal kind to use and you will get a lot more mileage out of your repair job.

How To Do It?

Make sure you have a large and clean place or bench to work. Open up the epoxy packet and combine the resin and the hardener. You may want to mix the combination to get a more even fluid to work with since lumps can be detrimental to the workings of the circuit.

Regardless of the type of repair you are carrying out whether it is a cracked circuit or you are trying to glue in a replacement pad or eyelet, you will find that this super glue does the trick. You want to carefully pour the mixture into the gap or the crack and wait for it to harden slightly. Don’t overflow the glue onto other parts of the circuit board such as the circuit board traces as that can do damage.

At this point you can use some sticky tape or a clamp to give some additional pressure to the glue so that it has time to adhere properly. You can also just hold it very neatly with your hands for about four to six minutes. After that the circuit board is going to be rock solid although keeping the heating levels in check will still be required but super glue normally does not melt due to heat pressure once it has dried completely.

Since Epoxy is something that most people have at home, it can create a habit of learning a new skill or fixing damaged electronics wherever possible since taking the device to a professional can get pricey. Epoxy is a durable solution to minor problems like cracks and gaps and replacements of small components that can be difficult to stick on otherwise.

Precautions

If possible use tools like dental picks and clamps to adhere the gaps together and to get the glue to stick. Also put on a pair of gloves to protect yourself from the harsh chemicals found in the super glue which can be hard to remove from the skin and may cause allergic reactions.
