LCD Inverter Repair

LCD Inverter Repair

Neither the CCFT, nor The Power Supply? What is another factor that may cause your LCD to lose its brightness? Aha! So here we are again with the same old discussion about the brightness of your LCD screen. An LCD is not some novel technology; in fact, it has been around for some decades. We have discussed in our earlier articles that the 2 main factors behind the dimming or the complete blackout of your LCD screen brightness can be traced back to the malfunctioning of your LCD’s Cold Cathode Fluorescent Tube (CCFT) or the power supply board. However, there is one another factor that may cause you to pull your hair. It’s time to reveal it; it’s the inverter!

Symptoms that the Life of Your LCD’s Inverter is over

How would you know that whether or not it’s the inverter that needs to be repaired or replaced? Following are some symptoms that will give you an indication that your LCD’s inverter has lost its capability to perform effectively and now it’s time that you take up the task of an LCD inverter repair.

Symptom # 1 – The LCD screen boots up but after some time it blacks out. You are able to see the display but the brightness isn’t sufficient to make sense of the text on the LCD screen.

Symptom # 2 – In some rare cases, you will be able to hear a buzzing sound from the LCD screen. This is a sound created by the inverter and is a clear indication that now it’s time to repair or replace it.

Where Is the Inverter Located?

The inverter is located right below the LCD screen. It is fairly easy to locate it as it is placed on a circuit board wrapped inside a copper coil.

But what on Earth is an Inverter?

Well, how do you think the LCD screen of your PC and laptop receives the power? An Inverter in an LCD is the device that provides electricity to the backlight (CCFT) so that it can light your LCD monitor screen. Furthermore, an inverter converts direct current (DC) received from the motherboard into alternate current (AC) before supplying it to the CCFT.

Ah! I See, So How to Repair or Replace It?

First of all, with the help of a screw driver open up the front bezel of your LCD monitor. What we mean by this is that a screwdriver should be used to remove all the screws and then you have to remove the front bezel with the help of your fingers. You should never use pointed objects to remove the front panel or else you will end up damaging your LCD screen.

The first thing that you’ll see behind the lower portion of the bezel is a circuit board with an inverter on it. Carefully unplug the cables on both sides of the board.

This board, with an inverter on it, can be bought online and can be replaced easily. However, if you don’t want to replace your malfunctioning board yourself, then contact a professional repair for LCD inverter repair.
